Job Description
The ideal candidate must have at least twelve years communications experience, preferably at a public relations agency and/or in the healthcare, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. The Director will be responsible for supporting the Exelixis Public Affairs team, which includes corporate communications, internal communications, social media, investor relations and patient advocacy. The position will report to the Executive Director, Public Affairs and Advocacy Relations.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support Public Affairs team through development of core materials for product and corporate announcements, social media/web content, and internal communications
• Serve as Public Affairs project lead for communications strategy and execution related to Exelixis' growing pipeline, including scientific data presentations, clinical trial initiations and regulatory milestones
• Support communications activities for Exelixis marketed products
• Serve as Public Affairs liaison with internal departments (e.g. Medical Affairs, Business Development) and external partners
• Contribute to Exelixis social media (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) and internal communications activities
• Participate in department program development/management, including brainstorming sessions, annual strategic and tactical planning, and quarterly metrics review
• Serve as Public Affairs point of contact for internal leadership review and promotional review team, including management of material submission and approval
• Help oversee agency partners/vendors, including time/budget management and invoicing
• Actively participate in Public Affairs team and agency partner meetings
• Assist with ongoing media monitoring and issues management
• Liaise with internal brand team, third party vendors and agency partners
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Education:
• BS/BA degree in Communications or Marketing with twelve years of related experience; a scientific background and extensive knowledge of biologics is a plus; or,
• MS/MA degree in related discipline and ten years of related experience; or,
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
• May require certification in assigned area
Experience:
• Typically requires a minimum of twelve years of relevant work experience in communications/public relations or marketing, in the healthcare, biotech or pharmaceutical industry
• Candidate must have a strong understanding of oncology therapeutics, including biologics, immunotherapies and antibody-drug conjugates
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, including demonstrated experience in assisting with the development of compliant communications materials and social media/web content
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and desire to work in a fast-paced team environment
• Results-oriented individual with exceptional judgment, self-confidence and strong interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail in grammar, proofreading/editing and style consistency
• Ability to think creatively, both in conceptual and visual approaches and in problem solving
• Skilled in generating and maintaining databases, analyzing tools/metrics and thorough reports
• General understanding of how to operate within industry regulatory and SEC compliance guidelines
