The mission of the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine is to identify genes for complex craniofacial and dental disorders in humans, using sophisticated statistical and molecular genetic methods to map and identify genes, develop phenotypes, and to investigate behavioral and epidemiological factors that influence gene expression. The Center is seeking a Research Lab Specialist to be responsible for carrying out experiments involving the characterization of human and mouse DNA sequence variation, performing DNA manipulation, PCR, electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, and Real-time PCR (TaqMan), mouse breeding, colony maintenance and record keeping. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for accurate tracking and record-keeping of large numbers of samples from several independent studies. The incumbent will conduct various laboratory experiments and assays under the supervision of the Principal Investigator related to genetic analysis. The candidate will organize, analyze, and review the resulting data and troubleshoot experiments, including the validation of new assays. Eventually, the candidate will be responsible for supporting laboratory training of students, post-docs, and fellows.Degree in a biology, genetics, chemistry, or related field required. Baccalaureate degree will be accepted in lieu of Master's with a total of at least 6 years of experience. Experience in a human genetics/genomics laboratory, ideally in a university setting, and previous experience working on craniofacial anomaly research preferred. Experience with Progeny database software is strongly preferred.
