MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

A Mechanical Project Engineer provides technical support for design and development of a new technologically advanced sawmill and actively participates in the construction management.  Upon mill commission, duties will shift to optimizing production, providing technical support for operational processes, safety improvements, maintenance, and capital project improvements.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Provide technical support on various production process upgrades company wide
  • Interface with design and construction teams through mill commissioning, then transition to technical support for operations
  • Provide technical assistance on process modeling
  • Work with production and maintenance teams in resolving day to day and long-term challenges
  • Engineer, design & manage capital and maintenance projects company wide
  • Analyze performance of various machines and make suggestions on improvements as needed
  • Stay updated on industry technological advancements
  • Establish and manage project budgets to provide the lowest total sustainable cost of installation
  • Work with mill personnel to complete benefit analysis and (ROI) Return On Investment strategies for capital projects
  • Provide technical assistance on health, environmental and safety processes

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors or greater in Mechanical, Industrial engineering or equivalent education from an accredited College or University
  • 5+ years' experience as a Mechanical engineer in a manufacturing capacity
  • Strong understanding of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and machine design
  • Working knowledge & experience creating engineering drawings and diagrams to effectively communicate design details for construction of machinery, parts and equipment
  • Proficient in use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD or other comparable design software
  • Team player and ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and work independently to drive tasks to completion
  • Safety focused and able to quickly troubleshoot technical issues

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of production processes
  • Working experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Project management experience
  • Personnel leadership experience
  • Lean experience
  • Experience with industrial machine design including structural mechanics, hydraulics, and power transmission.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication, welding, and machining

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Move safely, quickly, and perform duties with repetitious movement. Sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, twist, push and pull, maintain balance, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distances, and climb stairs. Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
