Locum Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Materials: London or New York
Nature Materials is a prestigious international monthly journal covering all aspects of cutting-edge materials research. We are now looking to recruit a locum editor for an initial period of 9–12 months, to cover the areas of photonics, optoelectronics and condensed-matter physics.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD (or equivalent) and preferably postdoctoral experience, and, in addition to a deep understanding of their own subject, they should be able to demonstrate a general interest in other areas beyond it. Editorial experience would be beneficial, but is not required.
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor of the journal and will play an important role in determining the representation of their subjects in the journal. They will handle original research papers submitted from all over the world, and work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review. They will also be involved in the commissioning and editing of Reviews, Comments and News & Views articles, as well as writing for the journal.
This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills, and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science and technology are prerequisites.
We are seeking a dynamic and outgoing candidate with excellent interpersonal skills. The position will ideally be located in our London office, although the possibility of working in New York will also be considered.
Applications should include the following:

Closing date: 10th July 2019
