JOB DESCRIPTION :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Requires a Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a major/concentration in Geotechnical Engineering (defined as completion of 27 credits of Geotechnical Engineering topics and 3 months experience as a Graduate Research Assistant.
The Master's degree and experience must include coursework and experience with an emphasis on:
a) Performing and evaluating seepage analysis for steady state and transient state and slope stability analysis, seismic analysis of slope, embankment and retaining walls, liquefaction analysis, engineering geology and advanced soil behavior.
b) Performing and evaluating seepage analysis for steady state and transient state using computer software Seep/W and slope stability analysis using computer software Slope/W.
c) Preparing geotechnical engineering reports on slope stabilization summarizing field and laboratory tests, engineering analyses and recommendations for slope protection works.
d) Computing settlement and time rate of consolidation of geotechnical systems subjected to ramp loading using manual calculations and computer software Settle3 and proposing methods to improve field consolidation process.
e) Planning field exploration program, soil sampling process and laboratory tests on soil.
f) Performing laboratory testing and characterizing soils based on the results of index tests (sieve analysis and Atterberg limit tests), hydraulic conductivity tests, strength tests (Triaxial, Unconfined Compressive, Direct Shear, Ring Shear and Direct Simple Shear) and consolidation tests.
g) Analyzing and evaluating the soil parameters based on the results of geotechnical field tests such as Standard Penetration Test and Cone Penetration Test.
h) Designing and analyzing ground improvement and soil stabilization methods.
i) Designing of geotechnical systems including shallow foundation, deep foundation, retaining structures, and slopes.
j) Evaluating and characterizing the properties and the behavior of biopolymer (i.e., xanthan gum and locust bean gum) treated soils.
k) Developing statistical and probabilistic models to define parameters for foundation design, slope stability and seismic hazard analysis.
l) Assisting with project management tasks, including material quantities, budget estimates and construction schedules.
m) Preparing and reviewing construction drawings using AutoCAD.
n) Presenting and publishing research findings on durability of biopolymer treated sand in International Conference.
Experience can be pre or post degree.
