Clinician Solutions Intern

Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World

An internship at Health Information Systems allows you to be part of an organization that's on the forefront of innovation in health care software solutions. 3M Health Information Systems is producing intelligent software that simplifies management of health information, medical coding, payment and other important functions for our customers. ​ With a diversity of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with 93,000 other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.
 

The internship position is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule of 40 hours a week throughout a 10-14-week assignment starting in May of 2021.

The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a(n) Pitt HIS Intern, working with the Clinician Solutions product and development teams to complete your CE-4 assignment, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Complete 5-week project intended on connecting practical experience to classroom education
  • Learn first-hand how technology solutions can impact the lives of patients and providers
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in product documentation, training materials, and reports
  • Support real world product development and customer satisfaction

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher (verified prior to start) from an accredited institution 
  • Basic computing skills including familiarity with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in economics, mathematics, statistics, biology, chemistry, neuroscience, nursing, finance, risk management from an accredited institution
  • Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Completed a minimum of junior year (6 semesters) by the start of the assignment
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 coding
  • Familiarity with HTML or XML
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working independently or in a group setting
  • Excellent communication, writing, and oral presentation skills
  • Understanding and familiarity with U.S. healthcare system
  • Familiarity with Agile scrum methodology
  • Detail oriented and committed to perfection
  • Strong interpersonal skills and judgment in order to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of people, both individually and in groups is required
  • Must be a creative and original thinker
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with close supervision
  • The successful candidate will exhibit professionalism, initiative, sound judgment, dependability, and a strong work ethic

Location: Internships will be based remotely

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B, Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT))
