Youth Counselor - Swing Shift (Finance)
Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children and families served by CHS
Supervise students according to Agency standards, individual treatment plans and supervisory directive.
Supervise and transport students utilizing an 8-passenger van on city streets or freeways for medical, dental and mental health appointments as well as social skills and treatment activities, and field trips, etc.
Shop for food, clothing, household items, office and personal supplies, etc. for students /program and teach students, according to their age and individual treatment plan, how to shop and concepts of money management, budgeting, planning, etc.
Engage in any required and assigned bookkeeping such as student allowances, petty cash for social skills and treatment activities, purchase orders and other related tasks.
Inventory food, students clothing and possessions etc., in order to maintain appropriate needs of the students.
Plan and document healthy student menus, and teach students, according to their age and individual treatment plan, to plan and document healthy menus.
Prepare healthy meals for students, and teach students, according to their age and individual treatment plan, to prepare healthy meals.
Supervise students during meals. Teach and reinforce positive social skill interaction and table manners.
Perform housekeeping maintenance, tasks, and reports as needed to maintain the physical plant up to standards of State Licensing and the Agency so as to provide a safe and healthy environment for the students, and teach students to perform housekeeping tasks as part of their daily living skills training per their individual treatment plans, as needed and assigned.
Organize and supervise age-appropriate recreational/social skills activities for students per supervisory direction, Agency and Licensing standards, as needed and assigned. (Active participation by staff in physical activities such as sports are conditional to staff safety and injury prevention standards, i.e. do not engage in contact sports or other sports activities if there is anticipated risk of injury due to individual skill level, or physical condition of staff.)
Supervise, instruct and assist students in proper hygienic and grooming care as indicated in individual treatment plans and program guidelines.
Distribute and document, per Agency standard, student medication.
Schedule and supervise student medical, dental and mental health appointments, routine or emergency.
Monitor and document behavioral changes of students due to changes in medication, etc. and report information to Cottage Manager.
Provide basic First Aid to students.
Provide needed care and assistance to students who are ill, i.e. preparing and serving food, distributing first aid and medication, assisting with personal care, sanitation clean-up, etc. Handle medical emergencies per Agency guidelines, State Licensing standards and supervisory direction, including basic First Aid, calling for emergency assistance, and staying with a student at the hospital/clinic/doctor's office.
Remain awake at night, supervise students, conducting bed checks randomly, at least every 10-15 minutes, or more often as indicated.
Report all serious or significant student behavioral problems or other significant information to the Night Supervisor, Assistant Night Supervisor, or call the On-Call Administrator.
Call the Night Supervisors every 30 minutes or more frequently as directed for "check-in."
Accept and follow the direction and supervision of the Night Supervisors during the Night Shift
Assisting Students in Group and Individual Settings
Assist students in meeting their individual goals, target behaviors and to develop behavioral change contracts.
Attend and participate in Student Therapy/Counseling Groups.
Encourage and reinforce students' positive behavior in a manner consistent with Agency/supervisory treatment strategies and Agency policies.
Teach and reinforce positive social interaction and skills in a manner consistent with Agency/supervisory treatment strategies and Agency policies.
Participate with, teach and supervise students in social skills, vocational skills, recreational skills and daily living skill activities, i.e. housekeeping, yard care, laundry, cooking, hygiene, sports/leisure activities, etc., per program and supervisory guidelines and as related to the overall treatment plan and modality of the Agency.
Assist with the planning, implementation and supervision of student social and vocational activities (i.e.) dances, Student Council events, vocational activities, etc.
Discipline and Behavioral Management
Apply accepted behavioral management techniques and policies as instructed.
Actively participate in crisis prevention and student management.
Student behavior management, including supervision of students, physical restraint to protect students, and other crisis interventions, according to State Licensing and Agency Regulations.
Documentation, Identification of Problems, Communication
Prepare documentation for Student Staffing's and other required reports.
Monitor behavior of students, document and report that information to supervisory staff using reporting format provided by the Agency.
Communicate and work cooperatively with school staff and administrators as related to students' educational needs.
Engage in daily change-over with school staff regarding student issues, behaviors, schedule, etc.
Whenever there is no Supervisor or Acting Supervisor present at the Program (weekends, holidays, evenings), provide a leadership role. Contact the On-Call Administrator and/or the Program Supervisor immediately regarding any serious matters.
Utilize programmatic systems and supervisory guidelines to ensure that the Program is meeting State Licensing Standards on a daily basis.
Maintain student files.
Professionally and thoroughly communicate with co-workers, supervisors, etc. using established processes and procedures, i.e. staff log, student point sheet, staff changeover meetings, Special Incident Reports, cottage calendar, memos, Medical Incident Reports, case note binders, individual meetings, etc.
Miscellaneous Duties
Attend all required staff training.
Review daily schedule with supervisor, for approval.
Supervise students who are not in school for whatever reason, i.e. holidays, home sick, etc.
Assist students in vocational/educational settings, who require supportive counseling/supervision to meet their treatment plan goals.
Assist other staff, programs, divisions, etc., within the Agency.
Change job assignments (Program/Cottage Assignments), as needed and assigned.
Follow established Agency guidelines in conflict resolution and communication with others.
All Youth Counselors are subject to over-time work as needed and/or directed, but they will not work more than 54 hours per calendar week, unless essential to the health and safety of students.
Attend staff and other meetings as required;
Must have an attitude of friendliness and be able to communicate with all levels within Children's Home of Stockton;
Must be reliable and consistent with attendance and punctuality to work;
Other duties as assigned.
