Traveling Store Planning Supervisor (Creative Design)



POSITION SUMMARY:

The Traveling Store Planning Supervisor role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is a specialized position that meets the highest standards of detail and efficiency as well as supervises and leads associates to also meet those high standards through their own servant leadership. In a new store environment, the role will facilitate huddle topics in front of large groups and provide project updates to leadership on conference calls. The role will ensure that Traveling Store Planning Specialists and store associates are following and meeting all OSJL standards including, but not limited to, standards relating to safety, fixtures, signage, planograms, merchandising guides, pricing, clothing and backroom. The role will be hands-on, working alongside Traveling Store Planning Specialists and Store Associates in a routine-driven day. In a remodel, reset or smaller project, the role will perform a combination of duties from the new store as well as work on their own tasks or as the supervisor of that project.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to one or multiple locations throughout the OSJL territory in the same week.
  • Assist leaders in the delegation of tasks, follow up to the accuracy of task completion, teach and train and mentor associates, perform performance reviews, champion huddle communication, and complete all projects to OSJL efficiency standards and timelines.
  • Set clear project performance expectations for the team for each project and provide regular updates on timeline and priorities to leadership as needed.
  • Support leaders in identifying high potential associates to increase capacity for development and succession planning for future opportunities.
  • Lead and supervise associates through the modeling or remodeling of OSJL stores and performing such tasks as loading and unloading trucks, organizing merchandise, stocking shelves, and setting planograms to OSJL standards.
  • Identify the associates, materials, equipment, and resources necessary to complete a project and communicate needs to leadership with attention to budgetary and time limitations. 
  • Inspect, maintain, and track the location of tools and equipment. Operate small tools and power tools including, but not limited to, a drill, circular saw, and Sawzall.
  • Efficiently inventory all parts, pieces, equipment, fixtures and tools necessary to complete a current or future project.
  • Maintain a high degree of detail to meet OSJL standards in regards to signage, pricing, merchandising, clothing and fixtures.
  • Perform continual follow up and leadership to ensure all Traveling Store Planning Specialists and Store Associates are working efficiently, safely and in accordance with all OSJL standards.
  • Assemble, disassemble and move gondolas, fixtures and furniture in an open store, closed store or a new store environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet business needs; weekly overnight stays are required (usually five days and four nights at a time, but no more than six consecutive days). Occasional weekend stays are required.
  • Set signage to OSJL standards to include the use of a scissor lift and/or ladder up to heights of 20 feet.
  • Participate in the hiring, coaching, and disciplinary process for team members. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic knowledge of merchandise fixtures in a retail setting is preferred
  • Prior retail merchandise experience in both Hardlines/Softlines is preferred.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Ability to operate a ticket gun, follow OSJL case cutting standards, lift up to 25 lbs, display merchandise, and ascend and descend ladders up to 20 feet.
  • Ability to use fine motor skills while operating power tools.
  • Basic understanding of or ability to learn blueprints and calculate requirements (i.e., size, quantity, dimensions) for the layout and assembling of fixtures.
  • Must have reliable transportation or a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and auto insurance.
  • Licensed on various electric pallet jacks, scissor lift and walkie stacker, or be able to obtain such within the first 90 days through OSJL-provided training.
  • Proficient in Google suite platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the role is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The role is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Environment ranges from the construction phase of a new store building to an open store updating, remodeling, or helping existing open stores.
  • Weekly travel and some evening and weekend work is required depending on the needs of the business.
  • Must be able to remain stationary and/or continually move for up to 10 - 12 hours per day.
  • Responsible for physical activities including using equipment, positioning self to properly transport fixtures and merchandise, ascending and descending to heights of 20 feet or more, moving and transporting merchandise on a frequent basis: should be able to lift and move 25 lbs of material on a regular basis.
