Assistant Roadmaster, Maintenance of Way, Repairs
SUMMARY:
The person in this position is responsible for oversight of maintenance-and-repair activities surrounding the MoW functions. This person carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include addressing complaints and resolving problems.
This position is not covered by Railroad Retirement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead, direct, and manage the day-to-day activities of MOW
• Interface with other departments to ensure efficient and organized operations
• Enforce compliance with safety procedures
• Monitor and closely control all maintenance and other related costs associated with the department
• Ensure department meets its track, signal, and capital-projects service goals
• Detect deviations from the federal/state regulations and implement remedial action
• Supervise and lead incident investigations and rerailing activities
• Inspect railroad track structure for compliance with policy and federal/state regulations.
• Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Perform duties without direct supervision.
• Ability to recognize problems and appropriately and efficiently make repairs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, climb, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently, and to lift weights up to 50 lbs. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures.
• A minimum of 5 years track experience with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the FRA Track Safety Standards and Roadway Worker Protection regulations.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules and work assignments.
• Travel between 4 locations in the Baton Rouge, LA area
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
• High school diploma or GED
• Must posses a valid Driver's License and be willing to obtain Commercial Driver's License if necessary.
• FRA 213 training/certification a plus
