Subject Matter Specialist II - Safety, Launch Systems Engineering (Government)



***Contingent on contract award***

Responsibilities:

  • Provide systems safety engineering support to the US Government for launch activities at CCAFS.
  • Review and verify Launch Service Provider (LSP) documentation and activities are in compliance with applicable system safety requirements, assess LSP hazard analyses.
  • Analyze the design and testing of launch vehicle flight termination systems and other critical safety components to provide the USG with risk mitigation options.
  • Evaluate and update open launch and range safety items, and provide the USG with recommendations.
  • Provide system safety engineering analysis for the deactivation and disposition of LE systems. This shall include providing system safety and environmental 1480 safety analysis reports related to disposition alternatives and closeout activities.
  • Support SSGs and SSWGs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and capable of completing multiple time-sensitive tasks.
  • Must be able to prioritize workloads.
  • Must thrive in fast-paced, changing environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with providing Systems Safety support for the government launch site activities.
  • Reviewing space launch systems safety documentation for compliance, reviewing, and verifying Launch Service Providers (LSP) safety documentation for compliance.
  • Providing safety assessments of activities and products for mission readiness, analyzing design of Flight Termination Systems and other safety critical components.
  • Assessing launch vehicle hazard analyses, assessing mission unique and tailored NSSL safety requirements, and providing safety analyses for deactivation and disposal of government launch systems.
  • Knowledge of  EWR 127-1, AFSPCMAN 1458 91-710, MIL-STD-882E, and AFI 91-202 AFSPCSUP1.

Experience and Education Requirements:

Required

  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in STEM-related field.
  • Requires US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • 5-years' experience for Bachelors, 3-years' experience for Masters

Preferred

  • TS clearance.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

  • Office environment.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening, subsequent random screening per antidrug and alcohol misuse prevention program requirements.

Travel:

Travel may be required and will be performed under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations (FTR) and/or Joint Travel Regulations (JTR).
