Cloud Architect (Finance)



What you'll Do

Primary Responsibility:

You will be responsible to design, build, deploy, and maintain business applications for Americold's cloud systems and technologies. As an experienced technologist and key member, you will help influence architectural choices across broad use cases involving security, data lake, analytics, and AI/ML. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges. You will be responsible to provide exceptional technical design guidance and thought leadership. You will work closely with business and cross-functional technical teams to offer strategies to optimize existing solutions on the cloud as well as propose new solutions on cloud platforms to migrate existing workloads, assist with cloud migration efforts, review workload architectures, and provide guidance on how to address high-risk issues. You will lead efforts to capture and share best-practice knowledge with the technical data engineers and data analysts.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for Architecting, designing, developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining scalable, cost-effective, and efficient Cloud solutions on data lake while taking care of compliance and best practices.

• Design, develop and implement proof-of-concept solutions, cloud architectures, data engineering and analytics solutions for data lake and applications.

• Working closely with stakeholders and product teams to understand business objectives, bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders and creating cloud-based solutions to facilitate those objectives.

• Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders within - Business Operations, Sales / Business Development, Finance and Customers

• Ensure that the architecture and solutions are compliant with cloud best practices and mitigate any security vulnerabilities that might occur.

• Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure the smooth operation of cloud environments.

• Look for ways to move older systems and solutions into the cloud for more efficiency.

• Scale our cloud data infrastructure, data pipelines and tools to meet growing business needs ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and secure.

• Implement solutions using AWS cloud offerings such as ECS, ECR, EKS, CloudFormation, Dockers, S3, Lambda, Glue Jobs, DocumentDB, AWS Cognito and API Gateway

• Manage the AWS cloud data lake, work with cloud services, deploy applications, automate tasks using scripts, and monitor performance and security.

• Evaluate and enhance data quality and reliability.

• Making hardware and software recommendations based on the needs of the project and organization. Evaluate and recommend the most effective cloud tools and services.

• Adapt to shifting priorities, find the answer to business problem and constantly learn about changing technology and best practices.

What Experience and Education You Need

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education.

• Experience architecting complex systems and working on large-scale projects in AWS Cloud and Data Lake.

• 5+ years of relevant experience Level of Experience: Performs work with little to no supervision. Leads & provides guidance to experienced analysts/developers. Acts as project leader on large, complex projects. Maintains a senior-level workload. Fully capable of working at the highest technical level.

• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining AWS solutions.

• Strong knowledge of cloud concepts architecture patterns, and best practices.

• Strong technical skills and hands-on experience in cloud platforms (such as AWS Azure), designing, developing, and implementing data pipelines, coding in programming languages extensively used in Data Science applications (e.g., R, Python, PySpark, Scala, Java, etc.)

• Strong problem solving, quantitative, data architecture and analytical abilities.

• Strong leadership skills to work with various teams and stakeholders.

• Excellent communication, analytical and delegation skills.

• Experience designing and implementing Data Warehouse/Data Lake, Cloud Based Technologies (AWS - Data Migration, Postgres, Glue, S3, EC2, Lambda, Step Functions, Document DB, RedShift).

• Experience in cloud design patterns, cloud development tools, frameworks, APIs, best practices, testing methods, security, and cost optimization, as well as problem-solving, troubleshooting and collaboration skills.

• Design and Implement CI/CD pipelines using Github actions and AWS Services (Code Pipeline, Code Build, Code Deploy), automate infrastructure provisioning and deployments using IaC tools such as AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.

• Strong SQL skills, ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.

• Experience of data mining principles: predictive analytics, machine learning, mapping, collecting data from multiple data systems on premises and cloud-based data sources.

• Experience leveraging and improving the Agile Scrum Process.

• Experience working with stakeholders and putting together cloud based solution-architecture for Data/Analytics products.

• Knowledge of data visualization tools: Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, etc.

• Experience understanding/eliminating functional and technical blockers for the team.

What Could Set You Apart

• AWS Solution Architect, Associate or Professions is a plus.

• Exposure to the web-apps technology stack like: ECS, EKS, ALB, RDS, Docker based container orchestration, modular microservices architecture, APIs, React, Java, Python, Node Js.

• Knowledge of integrating data lake with enterprise systems using XML, JSON, API, event bridge, Oracle ERP/EPM, Warehouse management systems, Salesforce, API driven synchronization between on-prem information systems and AWS.

• Knowledge of Microsoft tool set including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Knowledge of Supply Chain processes and business models.

• Knowledge of other Cloud architectures and cloud data governance models.

Physical Requirements

• Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, with frequent interruptions.

• Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching, or bending.

• Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work.

• Talking, hearing, and seeing are important elements of completing assigned tasks.

• May require travel by automobile and airplane for business.

• May require visits to warehouse operations in temperatures at or below freezing.

• May require carrying loads related to travel and the occasional lifting, carrying, positioning, and/or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

• Requires the use of various electronic tools.
