Position Information: Provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment. Document patient care and take and develop x-rays. May provide administrative assistance. Supervises other Dental Assistants. Essential Duties:
Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures to include but not limited to placement of bases and liners and placement and removal of rubber dams, insertion, finishing, and removal of temporary restorations.
Monitors supply levels in clinic and orders supplies through various vendors when needed.
Prepares set-up trays for anesthetic, operative, prosthetic, periodontal, prophylactic, endodontic, and orthodontic dentistry. Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment.
Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).
Performs patient charting as instructed by the dentist.
Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room.
Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures.
Takes impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
Supervises other Dental Assistants. Assists in the selection of employees, conducting performance appraisals, training, and setting work schedules. Acts as lead Dental Assistant.
May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer. Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies.
Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: 60 months experience performing chair side dental assistance Certifications/Licenses: Required to have all five of the following certifications from Oklahoma Board of Dentistry:
Certified Dental Assistant (CDA)
Radiation Protection and Safety
Coronal Polishing and Topical Fluoride
Placement of Pit and Fissure Sealants
Assisting in the Administration of Nitrous Oxide
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
