This is a seasonal position Mid June through August, Mon-Fri up to 40 hours Youll also be able to make the most of your Complementary Membership Position Summary Provide leadership and supervision; insure health, safety and general well-being of children in a camp environment. Implement and maintain a high quality, well-rounded, fun-filled program based on the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. Reports To:YMCA Camp Section Director Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Directly supervise and be responsible for his/her group of children; leading the group in age appropriate activities. Provide leadership and support to other camp staff in cooperation with camp specialist and directors. Ensure and promote the health and safety of all children through proactive measures including role modeling. This may include the use of sunscreen, active hydration, avoidance of environmental hazards. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports. Follow procedure for use of first aid kit. Plan and lead activities with a group in accordance with the session camp schedule. Arrive prepared for the scheduled shift, with staff shirt, nametag and first aid kit. Should be prepared for constant concentration and visual surveillance of program participants with no distractions. Maintain good public relations with parents. Understand that you represent the YMCA and maintain a positive disposition, demeanor and attire. Attempt to answer parent concerns or make appropriate referrals to the director or coordinator. Set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcement. Ensure that all campers are provided with appropriate prescribed medication where appropriate. Ensure that campers being released early arrive at the assigned location in a timely manner. Treat children with dignity and respect. Recognize their individuality and diversity. Maintain a healthy and safe environment through regular maintenance and cleaning of the facilities. Maintain the cleanliness of the group area. Assist in maintaining the necessary records involving attendance and sign-in and sign out sheets. When releasing child(ren), ensure that the proper release procedures are followed and appropriate identification is shown. Report concerns of parents or of children to direct supervisor; complete necessary child abuse report forms as needed. Attend staff meetings/events. Demonstrate and teach the character development program values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty. Actively participate in pre-camp training. Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers and members of the YMCA to develop team spirit and family atmosphere. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education & Experience: High School (GED) preferred Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certificates, License & Certifications: (not all are required to apply) First Aid and CPR certification Child Abuse Prevention All certifications must be renewed in a timely manner in accordance with general YMCA policies and based on American Camp Association standards.
