Garage Attendant (Finance)
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The County of Riverside's Department of Waste Resources has an opportunity for a Garage Attendant located in Moreno Valley. The Garage Attendant will perform a wide range of services on Fleet Services Section, responsibilities will include: Shuttling department vehicles, repairing/replacing flat tires, delivering parts, washing and cleaning out Fleet Pool Vehicles, routine and periodic unskilled preventive maintenance routines and tasks on automotive equipment, garage facilities, shop equipment, light and medium trucks up to 35,000 lbs. GVW; and to do other work as required.
This is an entry-level class. Incumbents of this class perform a variety of unskilled functions normally associated with a fleet services servicing, dispatching, or rental operations.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Assists in the performance of minor maintenance and servicing of a vehicle fleet including, but not limited to servicing equipment with oil, water, air, and fuel; changes oil; removes and replaces air and oil filters.
• Assists in lubricating fleet service vehicles; may assist in recovery of disabled vehicles to include minor road service and towing of vehicles; may transport vehicles to various new County locations.
• Affixes decals and assists in new vehicle preparation; may assist in preparation of vehicles for painting.
• Replaces worn items such as windshield wipers, light bulbs, and fan belts; changes and repairs tires; steam cleans equipment.
• Performs parts or delivery runs to various fleets service new facilities, as required; cleans, waxes, or polishes equipment.
• Performs janitorial duties as directed; performs errands; maintains shop equipment.
• May supervise volunteers, Senior Tax Work-Off Participants, and Sheriff Department Work Release participants as directed.
• Performs light new garage maintenance to include carpentry, electrical, and plumbing; may function as night attendant.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; learn the principles of vehicle maintenance; learn the safety practices and procedures of a vehicle maintenance facility/service center; perform heavy manual labor; learn to operate a variety of vehicle services equipment; follow oral and written instructions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a (DOT) mandated alcohol and drug screeningrecords check. Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two (2) years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Applicants for safety-sensitive positions must submit an H-6 Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history before hire. Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing on a random basis or for reasonable suspicion.
Physical abilities: Lift/Carry up to 50 lbs., bending, manipulation of objects/equipment daily
Physical exposures: Landfill odors, weather (hot/cold), insects, automotive/heavy equipment fluids

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
