Safety Specialist (Biotech)



Provides support, training, and inspection to one or more rail related locations. Oversees training and regulatory compliance activities to include education and training of existing and future employees performing railcar switching, railcar loading and railcar unloading. This position will perform duties and carryout responsibilities according to the procedures and compliance guidelines as prescribed and required by the FRA, OSHA and Company and Customer Policy. 

**This position is not covered by Railroad Retirement. 

 

Job Description:

 

  • Interact with internal and external training programs and applications.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing training for employees to include, but is not limited to, Safety and Operating rules, railcar loading and unloading procedures.
  • Monitors the safety performance of Switchman and Loaders; responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Conducts efficiency testing to determine the effectiveness of training and to monitor regulatory compliance.
  • Assists in implementing company training and regulatory compliance procedures as they pertain to the operation.
  • Maintains up-to-date training and regulatory compliance manuals.
  • Organizes and maintains file system for training and compliance recordkeeping.
  • Interact with customer personnel to ensure their expectations are met.
  • Assures constant state of compliance with FRA and OSHA regulations.
  • Assists with preparation for agency inspections and facilitates the inspections.
  • Interface and assist other departments to ensure efficient and organized training and compliance activities.
  • Direct and manage the organization's training resources for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates an excellent behavior and attitude and promotes an organizational culture that fosters safety through effective leadership.
  • Inspects railroad track for compliance with industry standards and makes minor corrective repairs. Completes related reports.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills:

      

  • High level of  analytical problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication, team building and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), Tank Car Loading, Track Inspection.
  • Strong organization and administration skills.
  • Flexibility to assume assignments with little or no notice and outside normal work hours.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an outdoor environment, regardless of weather condition.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an operation that operates 24x7
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.   

 ***Currently running 2 shifts, including weekends. Must be flexible to work any hours to support operations.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Three+ years of work experience in the rail transportation industry
  • Knowledge of track inspection; FRA certification 213 a plus
  • Knowledge of railroad operating and tank car loading rules/regulations.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS: 

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate's Degree a plus.
  • Valid driver's license
