Lead Cell Engineer (Engineering)
What we look for:
The role is expected to work closely with lead and senior engineers to establish goals, priorities, and timelines, while independently carrying out technical engineering tasks with limited guidance. The individual can take the lead on most launch projects and is capable of offering and implementing process improvements within the cell team. They are adept at identifying and solving complex issues and can establish timelines and resource needs for projects involving multiple engineering functions. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role requires clearly conveying technical topics across functions to achieve alignment and buy-in, as well as presenting results to OEM customers. Additionally, the individual is expected to direct, educate, and mentor junior engineers.
How you will do it:
Investigate potential suppliers for Li Ion, Na Ion, UCaps, and other emerging chemistries, keeping up to date on their product portfolios and technology roadmaps
Evaluate Chemistry and Cell designs from potential suppliers
Prepare test plans, monitor testing, and assist with testing of cells
Propose new tests as needed to further the understanding of cells
Analyze, summarize and report on cell test data
Perform cell teardowns with analytical analysis to document cell design and chemistry
Contribute to the requirements analysis and validation planning activities specific to customer projects
Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify the appropriate cell to meet customer requirements
Participate in distillation of OEM system requirements into cell requirements
Contribute to system development projects relating to sourced cells
Supply necessary cell related information to system design teams
Assist in developing relationships with suppliers to help generate understanding of their cell performance, quality, and business viability
Assist in communication of cell requirements to suppliers
Contribute to discussions with cell suppliers on how to improve cell performance to meet requirements
Analyze and report on test data from cell suppliers
Contribute to OEM technical discussions
What we look for
Required:
BS in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with some industry experience (4-10 years)
MS in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with limited industry experience (3-7 years)
Preferred:
Experience with Li Ion, Na Ion, and Super Capacitor cell chemistry and cell design highly desired
Experience with Li Ion, Na Ion, and Super Capacitor cell manufacturing highly desired
Knowledge of Analytical techniques used for the evaluation of various chemistry designs preferred: GC-MS, ICP, TGA, DSC, FTIR, SEM EDX, BET
Experience building small cells for materials evaluation preferred: Coin cells, pouch cells, half cells, three electrode cells
Knowledge of cell level DFMEA/PFMEA with respect to cell design and manufacturing preferred
Experience with Python highly desired
