Campus Dean, Nursing (Education)



SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, with an indirect reporting relationship to the Dean, College of Nursing, is responsible for providing leadership in managing, planning, and implementing comprehensive pre- and post-licensure nursing programs (including graduate level programs) for delivery in support of University, campus, and/or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet workplace and placement expectations.  Leads programmatic budget preparation and fiscal administration, student-learning outcomes and participates in curriculum assessment, coordination and improvement, determination of teaching assignments, supervision and evaluation of faculty, design and operation of program facilities, and selection/coordination of program specific external facilities and instruction.  Provides professional leadership and support for teaching faculty; serves as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment that fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.  If approved by the CA Board of Nursing as an Assistant Program Director, may be expected to assume program director responsibility for California campuses in the absence of the College Dean/Program Director.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

Program Specific Requirements - State of California Board of Registered Nursing:
Must have a minimum of one year's experience in an administrative position.

Must have a minimum of two year's prior experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs.

Must have at least one year's experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care or equivalent experience and/or education, as determined by the Board of Registered Nursing.

Program Specific Requirements - Texas Board of Nursing:
Must have a minimum of three years' teaching experience in a professional nursing education program.

Must have demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in administration within a professional nursing education program.

General requirements:
Leadership knowledge in the program field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence. 

Knowledge in technological support and delivery of program area and services. 

Knowledge and evidence of strong leadership, supervisory and management skills as applicable to specialized program area.  

Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards such as Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) or other nursing accrediting agencies, e.g., CCNE,WSCUC, and other accreditation standards. 

Demonstrated ability to work independently, without need of significant support staff.

Experience with MS Office.  

Knowledge of applicable databases and computer application systems to supply the most accurate information, reports and projections. 
 

EDUCATION:

State of California Board of Registered Nursing Requirements:
Master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university, which includes course work in nursing, education or administration, required.

Doctorate preferred.

Texas Board of Nursing Requirements:
Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university, which includes course work in nursing, education or administration, required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

State of California Board of Registered Nursing Requirements:
Current unencumbered Registered Nurse License required.

Must have approval by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) as Assistant Program Director prior to assuming the role of Campus Director of Nursing.  

Texas Board of Nursing Requirements:
Must hold a current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.
