Fire Chief (Architecture)
Directs the administrative and operational activities of the Fire Department including all facets of fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services to include personnel management, policies, procedures, and safety.
Directs the City's fire defenses, volunteer part-time paid staff, and volunteer fire fighters.
Works in coordination with Cibolo Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) assuring a smooth, harmonious working relationship between the City and CVFD during the transitional process.
Coordinates with the City Fire Marshal for investigations of fires occurring within the city limits which require the expertise of a fire investigator;
Coordinates with the City Fire Marshal and assist as necessary on any fire inspections. Takes an active role as required to assist fire code analysis when conflicts arise.
Counsel and discipline department personnel as required.
Assures that departmental operations are performed in concert with all applicable Federal, State and local laws, ordinances, codes and the policies/procedures from the City Council and the City Manager.
Prepare, file, and present written and oral studies, reports, and recommendations as directed by the City Manager and for City, State, and Federal Officials and Organizations.
Plan, prepare, and manage the administration of the Fire Department's budget, including long-range planning, recommendations for the department's personnel, equipment, and station.
Responds to and take command as necessary of firefighting personnel and incidents.
Directs the maintenance, repair, improvement, and replacement of firefighting and EMS equipment.
Purchases supplies and equipment for the department.
Coordinates City personnel, part-time paid, and volunteer fire fighters and activities regarding emergency management and safety and safety programs.
Coordinates and/or develops and implements departmental safety and training programs.
Provides staff support to boards and commissions; attends and participates in professional group meetings; and stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of fire service.
Attends City Council meetings and takes necessary action regarding Council agenda items;
Attends State/Federal required courses.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
