About the Position

The Director of Development is a dynamic and strategic leader responsible for designing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support Evergreen Goodwill's mission and growth. This role oversees the Development Team, cultivates high-value donor relationships, and drives innovative initiatives to secure major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships. The Director will ensure robust and diverse revenue streams while fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Strategic Fundraising Leadership

  • Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy to meet annual revenue and organizational goals, with a focus on major gifts, corporate partnerships, and annual-fund growth.
  • Lead strategic fundraising campaigns, including special initiatives, mini-campaigns, and capital campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors, stakeholders, and key volunteers to leverage their networks for fundraising efforts.

Donor Engagement and Stewardship

  • Develop and implement a robust donor engagement strategy to foster meaningful relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of major donors and prospects, ensuring timely follow-up and customized engagement strategies.

Grant and Proposal Management

  • Oversee and provide support to a seasoned grant-writing team.
  • Oversee the development of compelling grant proposals and funding requests.
  • Collaborate with program teams to identify fundable initiatives and align proposals with donor priorities.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing development team, providing clear goals, professional development opportunities, and accountability measures.
  • Foster a collaborative and performance-driven culture within the team, ensuring a high level of engagement and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and track progress toward fundraising goals.

Communications, Events Leadership, and Execution

  • Lead and coordinate the planning, execution, and follow-up of signature fundraising events, donor appreciation gatherings, and other philanthropic activities to enhance donor engagement, reinforce the organization's mission, and maximize fundraising outcomes.
  • Partner with the marketing and communications team to align messaging and create impactful donor materials.
  • Serve as a key liaison between development, marketing, and programs to enhance storytelling and donor engagement.

Financial Oversight

  • Work closely with Evergreen Goodwill's executive leadership, program teams, and finance department to ensure transparency and strategic alignment in fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Analyze fundraising metrics and prepare reports for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in nonprofit development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts ($50,000+) from individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Experience developing and executing annual giving programs, corporate sponsorships, and donor stewardship strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams in a complex organizational environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience creating donor proposals, stewardship reports, and campaign messaging
  • Experience with donor management systems (e.g., Donor Perfect, Greater Giving, or other CRMs) and data-driven fundraising strategies
  • Deep understanding of philanthropy trends and legal regulations related to fundraising
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks during event setup and teardown, including standing for extended periods and safely lifting, loading, and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds

Skill: Ability to analyze donor data and fundraising metrics using spreadsheet and data visualization tools

Tools: Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets for data analysis; Tableau or Power BI for data visualization and creating insightful reports

Digital Marketing and Communication Tools

Skill: Competence in managing digital campaigns, including email marketing, social media, and online advertising

Tools: Mailchimp, Constant Contact for email marketing; Hootsuite or Buffer for social media management

Presentation and Proposal Software

Skill: Expert use of presentation tools to create persuasive and visually engaging pitches for donors, stakeholders, and board members

Tools: Microsoft PowerPoint, Keynote, or Prezi

Content Management Systems (CMS)

Skill: Basic familiarity with website management tools to update content, publish campaign updates, and analyze web traffic

Tools: WordPress, Drupal, or similar platforms

Virtual Meeting and Collaboration Platforms

Skill: Ability to leverage virtual communication tools to coordinate with team members, board members, and donors, particularly in remote or hybrid work environments

Tools: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet

Grant Management Software

Skill: Proficiency in systems that streamline grant writing, tracking, and reporting to ensure compliance and efficient use of time

Tools: Foundant Technologies, GrantHub, or Fluxx

Knowledge: Grant identification best practices

Database Management

Skill: A solid understanding of managing and maintaining donor databases, ensuring data accuracy, security, and efficient retrieval of records
