Estimator II (Engineering)
The position of Estimator II has been established to enhance the profitability of the business by producing and assembling bids that accurately reflect projects within Baker Electric's scope. The Estimator II will effectively complete bid estimates, host bid reviews, and own an estimating workload with cost supervision from Sr./Chief Estimator. This an exempt position and acts as an individual contributor.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
Education / Training / Work Experience:
· 2-7 years of experience as an Electrical Estimator (or combined electrical Project Engineer)
· Proven ability to successfully complete various estimates and budgets simultaneously
· Proven knowledge of electrical relevant to needs of the business group
· Years of experience may vary based on additional experience such as: Bachelor's Degree in related field (Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, etc.) and/or 2-6 years of commercial field construction / electrical experience or completion of Electrical trade program
· CPE “Certified Professional Electrical Estimator” a plus
· Proficiency in Bluebeam, Procore, MS Project, or other related Construction Management software
· Proficiency in Accubid (LiveCount / On Screen Take Off) or other related Construction Estimating software
Knowledge and Skills:
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Database management
· Software – navigate Accubid LiveCount
· Strong analytic and mathematical skills (good with numbers)
· Intermediate understanding of technical drawings and specifications
· Aptitude for broadening electrical market knowledge
· Ability to proficiently support various types of estimates: Budgets / Design Build / Design Assist / Hard bid

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
· Standard office environment. Individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, and hear. Occasionally may have to lift boxes full of materials for purposes of setup of program, typically 25 pounds or less.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
· Assumes job duties and responsibilities of the Estimator I.
· Review and evaluate project plans and specifications, bid documents, and other relevant project documents to identify what is needed for a project and to create a bid proposal.
· Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes, preparing bids, and determining cost effectiveness.
· Scope and qualify (bid level) subcontract bids and material quotations per company procedures ensuring the low responsive quotation is utilized.
· Perform all take-off and quantity surveys per company standardized procedures.
· Anticipate potential problems and devise solutions proactively.
· Solicit subcontractors, and material/equipment quotes from company approved vendors in a strategic manner with your Supervisor.
· Attend pre-bid job meetings and site surveys when required.
· Prepare bid summary ensuring the computed bid price includes all correct factors as approved by Chief/Director.
· Organize, manage, and coordinate the activities of bid day to ensure that we execute the submission in a strategic manner to give ourselves the best chance for success.
· Prepare and assist in submission of scope letters, bid forms and other bid submissions accurately and in a timely manner.
· Review specs and research best manufacturer for outcome in order to make recommendations to manager.
· Generate RFIs when appropriate prior to bidding and send to appropriate entity.
· Participate in department meetings to discuss department objectives and goals.
· Understand the need and manage or assist Project Management in estimating change orders or other project needs as related to pre-construction functions.
· Work independently or with a team when needed to complete estimates and proposals in a timely and efficient manner.
· Initiate accounting breakdowns and audit cost codes in partnership with Chief.
· Maintain accurate data within estimating platforms.
· Perform other special projects as needed.
