A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is responsible for performing physical examinations, utilizing diagnostic testing, making diagnoses, and managing the treatment of common episodic women's health problems.

Midwifery care includes the management of primary health screening, health promotion, and the provision of care from adolescence through the lifespan, including the neonatal period. This encompasses care related to preconception, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum recovery, normal newborn recovery, infant feeding (including human lactation), comprehensive gynecologic, reproductive, and sexual health care, and post-menopausal care.

A CNM works in a variety of settings, including clinics, ambulatory health centers, and hospitals. CNMs write orders and make rounds in hospital settings. Patient care may vary by setting depending on the facility and the CNM's expertise. CNMs may perform procedures such as insertion of intrauterine pressure catheters, amniotomy, birth maneuvers, episiotomy, laceration repair, pudendal analgesia, newborn circumcision, and insertion of contraceptive devices.

This position requires rotation to different work sites and may also involve evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours. On-call hours may also be required.This position requires graduation from an academic nurse-midwifery program accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Midwifery Education; Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board and certificate maintenance; and Licensure by the State of Florida as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the nurse midwifery category as outlined in Florida Statute 464, The Nurse Practice Act, and Florida Administrative Code, and Chapter 64B9, Rules of the Board of Nursing.

Master's/Doctorial degree in nursing preferred. New graduates will be considered for employment after certification and licensure is completed. Candidates with experience are preferred, especially experience in full scope practice and tertiary level of care. A broad range of experience with outpatient women's health, family planning, prenatal and postpartum care along with inpatient prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care is preferred.
