What we do:
The Compute Service Team in TG Enterprise Support provides computational resources to the Research and Statistics Group. The team designs, implements and operates the computing environment that supports leading-edge academic research and rigorous policy analysis by economists, research analysts, business partners, visiting scholars and external collaborators. The team provides IT support, training, and consultation services to assist econometric programming and analytics.
Your role as Data Engineer:
Include data loading, designing schemas, database maintenance, application security, database access support, access provisioning and database growth management. This position will collaborate effectively with economists and research analysts to produce advanced analytical systems to efficiently process data sets. You will assist researchers with data management, SQL optimization, elimination of file format conversions, provide data curation and leverage business software for task automation. Familiarity with ODBC/JDBC setup, code versioning (Git), data download and ETL are also required.
What we are looking for:
Required Technical Skills:
Hands on experience with distributed databases and Hadoop, especially with Cloudera.
Expertise in SQL (views, explain plans, optimization) and ODBC/JDBC support.
Experience with any of the following Cloudera components is a plus: Cloudera Manager, Impala, Yarn, Spark, Kafka, Oozie, Flume, Solr, Kudu.
Knowledge Kerberos and Active Directory integration
Able to support users' questions about R and Python and installing packages in virtual environments.
Experience with Linux Systems.
Familiarity with Data Science and programming best practices.
Knowledge of Git and able to support version control GUI tools like SmartGit.
Additional Skills:
Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS EC2, S3, CloudFormation
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work on multiple IT support requests and contribute to team infrastructure projects
Enthusiasm and passion for training new users in supported technology.
The desire to learn, grow and develop professionally.
