Business Development Manager / Director (Houston, TX) (Finance)
Position Description
The Business Development position is responsible for the commercial development and execution of pipeline and gas storage growth projects for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America (NGPL), part of Kinder Morgan's Gas Pipeline Group. This position provides the opportunity to interact with senior management, lead negotiations with external customers, and strategically influence revenue decisions the company makes.
Job Responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement commercial business development strategy.
- Originate and manage the development of projects that will enhance the profitability of NGPL, which may include major capital expansions, acquisitions and new project development.
- Identify prospects, coordinate or lead negotiations, and prepare draft agreements with potential customers and/or counterparties for approved projects.
- Coordinate multi-discipline, cross-functional teams to produce scopes of work, identify projects' risks, and produce cost estimates. Departmental interactions will include Facilities Design, Engineering, Environmental, Land, Legal, Accounting, Gas Control, Marketing and Regulatory.
- Develop and evaluate economic models for projects, prepare management presentations, and present investment opportunities for approvals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and/or existing customers and other key industry representatives.
- Work closely with Legal and Regulatory to write commercial contracts as well as FERC applications based on developed projects.
- Perform market and competitor analysis.
Position Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (required); studies in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or Finance, or related field of study; MBA a plus but not required
- Seven (7) years' experience in the energy industry, with at least two (2) years of specific experience in developing new business investment opportunities
- Experience working on FERC-regulated projects
- Must be able to analyze all aspects of a natural gas business arrangement (technical, financial, contractual, legal, operational and marketing)
- Must have well developed oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Must have the ability to influence without authority by working with a wide variety of people, internally and externally, with tact, courtesy, and professionalism while driving for positive results
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential
- Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction
- Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies
- Willingness to travel, as needed
- Significant experience and business contacts within the natural gas industry
- Ultimate job level will be determined based on the successful candidates' skills, qualifications and experience
- Must be proficient in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
