Assist the HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) in hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, used oil management, sampling, waste determinations and other environmental tasks.
Operate light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to: chemical transfer pumps, mixers, drum vacuums, forklifts, dollies, and HAZMAT equipment.
Perform hazardous waste removal from facility equipment and perform decontamination as needed.
Triple wash and rinse all reusable drums and prepare (de-head) other non-usable drums for recycling.
Under supervision, assist the HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) in field sampling activities and calibration of meters.
Assist the HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) in conducting lab packs as needed.
Collect regulated and non-regulated wastes from CHI activities and transport them to the 90-day central accumulation facility. Inventory, segregate, sort, label and mark wastes for off-site shipment.
Provide other departments and shops HSE approved waste containers, labels and markings upon request and in a timely manner.
Ensure there is current inventory of UN rated containers available for immediate use.
Maintain records of work performed and other records; report to management when non-compliance or hazardous conditions are found.
Perform routine inspections of LQG central accumulation area, hazardous waste satellite accumulation areas, emergency equipment, and spill clean-up supplies. Order supplies as needed.
Maintain waste inventory list and profiles of hazardous materials/waste and ensure it is up to date and current.
Under supervision, perform field sampling and equipment readings for the company NPDES permit and groundwater remediation efforts.
30 % SAFETY
Assist the HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) with health, safety and environmental training. ​
Assist the HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) in maintaining existing SDS system and ensure new materials and products have appropriate SDS that are communicated to employees.
Under direct supervision or specific instruction, assists the HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) with industrial hygiene surveys such as noise monitoring, air sampling, chemical exposure, etc.
Conduct safety equipment inspection which includes but is not limited to the following:
Emergency response equipment
Fire protection equipment
Eyewash stations and safety showers
Material handling equipment (cranes, forklifts, etc.)
First aid kits
Complete and maintain adequate environmental and safety inspection records required
Under direct supervision or specific instruction, assists HSE Manager and senior HSE Technician(s) with incident reporting and investigation.
Occasional travel to assist with inspection of other local facilities and training opportunities
Participate in the CHI Safety Committee; maintains meeting minutes
Emergency Evacuation and Medical Response Team member.
Promote safety and environmental compliance among CHI employees and contractors.
10% OTHER
Assist in HSE record keeping as trained.
Assist with SDS management as trained.
Support the continuous improvement of environmental and OSH programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE -
High School Diploma or GED.
1-year experience in an HSE capacity preferred, but not required.
OSHA 30 HR General Industry and/or HAZWOPER 40HR preferred, but not required.
Strong desire to promote workplace safety and support the HSE Department initiatives
Ability, and desire, to learn in a training environment until proficient in daily tasks
Basic mathematics, reading, writing and oral communication skills.
Good organizational skills for work load and file management.
Ability to keep information confidential.
Have considerable concentration on variable or complex tasks, often under fluctuating work schedules and time lines.
Ability to handle deadlines effectively.
Ability to research, interpret and apply regulatory guidance (EPA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) to address health, safety and environmental issues under the guidance of senior team members
