Transportation Mechanic (Finance)
JOB SUMMARY: The transportation mechanic provides maintenance services for all OES school buses and vehicles. The mechanic provides maintenance and repair services to all grounds equipment and tools as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform inspections and do routine maintenance and repairs of school vehicles, including the following:Ensure that vehicles meet all standards set by State and Federal laws and regulations, and other minimum standards set by the school.Conduct and document routine inspections of all vehicles, including fluid level, tire, and complete visual checks.Service all vehicles (e.g., oil and filter changes, etc.) on a scheduled basis. Document all service to vehicles performed.Conduct comprehensive annual inspections of all vehicles according to the protocols established by the State of Oregon and document appropriately.Maintain a work request system for drivers to use to report vehicle problems. Communicate with drivers submitting requests.As much as possible, schedule repairs and maintenance to ensure that vehicles are available for scheduled trips and routes.Coordinate the fueling of all vehicles, taking care to ensure that vehicles are fueled as required in advance of field trips.Maintain a clean and tidy work environment. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness of the bus garage.Maintain and store all cleaners, fuels, solvents, etc. in compliance with MSDS and OR-OSHA.Maintain records of routine inspections, scheduled maintenance, annual inspections, and repairs.Clean exterior of buses as needed. Monitor interior cleanliness of vehicles and report deficiencies to Manager.Maintain and repair grounds equipment, golf carts, lift equipment, and emergency generators.Meet the requirements to be a licensed and certified school bus driver and drive a school bus as necessary or assigned.Be particularly aware of personal safety and the safety of fellow employees, students and teachers in shop operations, the handling and storage of equipment and supplies, and vehicle movement on campus (particularly in the bus yard).Communicate regularly with the Director regarding work progress, and related problems and concerns. Make recommendations in all areas of job responsibility, including special repairs of vehicles and equipment, vehicle replacement, vehicle specification, routine maintenance schedules, etc.Refer to the Director any concerns that have financial or policy implications.Participate in other aspects of the life of the school as appropriate or assigned.Perform plant maintenance tasks and projects as assigned.Perform other duties as assigned.
