Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Export General Counsel - the Assistant General Counsel will be a trusted partner and key advisor for our Export Controls and Sanctions programs, including compliance with the ITAR and EAR, OFAC sanctions, and as applicable, foreign export and sanctions regulations. This role will be a pivotal partner to the Export and Sanctions team and the business through its development, implementation, and enhancement of trade controls, policies, and procedures to support risk management and the compliant flow of goods and technology across borders. This position will also serve as sanctions and export advisor role to the Compliance teams and internal stakeholders on trade compliance matters, including transactional reviews, training, and awareness programs.An Assistant General Counsel provides legal support and guidance across various areas of law, ensuring compliance, managing risks, and protecting Honeywell's interests through expert legal counsel.Must have:

  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in a law department, preferably in a multi-national company, law firm or government agency
  • Significant experience in export controls regulations and trade sanctions laws
  • Knowledge of Compliance IT and digital systems (including ERP software systems, SAP, GTS, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Experience designing and managing global programs with influence at varying levels across the organization
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Absolute adherence to principles of integrity, compliance and ethics

  • Develop, implement, and enhance trade controls, including policies and procedures, to support risk management and compliant business (and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements)
  • Proactively identify, evaluate, and manage export risks in a way that enables the organization to deliver sustainable business growth.
  • Provide advice and direction relating to higher risk transactions from a sanctions or export perspective, including, as appropriate, advising on and shepherding the preparation and submission of higher risk licenses necessary for the operation of the business and maintenance of an effective compliance program
  • Stay updated on trade laws, regulations, designations, and other related regulatory announcements, assess and calibrate program response, and communicate business impacts
  • Exercise strong leadership, collaboration, and execution skills with project teams, outside vendors (including outside counsel) and consultants.
  • Engage with regulatory authorities on policy changes, authorization management, and programming generally relating to sanctions and export matters to inform Honeywell's compliance approach, deepen the Company's understanding of trade policies, as well as resolve licensing matters.
  • Monitor and prepare summaries for senior stakeholders on export and sanctions trade policy changes and trends that may impact Honeywell's business; identify opportunities to comment on proposed legislation and lead Honeywell's approach in conjunction with Government Relations.
