Splunk System Administrator (Information Technology)



Job Summary

The Splunk System Administrator will manage, maintain and support an enterprise level Splunk Cloud installation.  You will act as Splunk Subject Matter Expert (SME), configure and maintain Splunk, analyze performance data, and provide insights to improve monitoring of Medline applications. 

Job Description

This is a Work-From-Home position.  You will be required to be on site 1 day per month.

As part of the Service Management Office, your primary goal is availability.   In your role as Splunk SME, you will identify and help resolve application issues and outages, train team members and users on using Splunk, and work with Splunk to identify, report on, and resolve issues.  You will also maintain a working knowledge of competing APM products in the industry to help ensure Medline is taking a best-in-class approach to observability. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Splunk as a critical application in an enterprise environment

  • Install, configure, and update Splunk agents on Linux and Windows servers

  • Manage and perform preventative maintenance tasks including OS and application patching

  • Install and maintain Splunk apps like DB Connect and SC4S to improve Splunk usability

  • Correlate data between monitoring applications, including Splunk, Logicmonitor, and Appdynamics

  • Create, maintain, and use dashboards to prevent outages and increase availability

  • Collaborate with teams within I.T. to implement monitoring and processes that support business goals

  • Work with the NOC and application teams to investigate incidents

  • Advocate, demonstrate, and champion the use of monitoring capabilities and ITSM process within Medline

  • Engage and work with software and hardware vendors to remediate identified issues and defects

  • Define and implement standards for monitoring of infrastructure and applications

  • Understand and adhere to ITIL best practices like incident management, change management, event management, and problem management

  • Be a champion of best practices for high availability of infrastructure and applications

  • Some weekend work is required

Minimum Job Requirements

  • 3+ years supporting Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud in a multi-application environment

  • Strong problem isolation, resolution, analytical and diagnostic skills

  • 3+ years of experience on an operations team in a demanding fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated experience with IT Service Management processes, including incident management and change management.

  • General knowledge of Windows and Linux system administration

  • Knowledge of other APM monitoring tools and industry trends

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or other related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Administrator or Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect

  • ITIL Foundations (V3) certification or higher

  • Experience with VMware virtual server infrastructure, including Linux and Windows system administration

  • General knowledge of Azure Cloud and IT networks

The anticipated salary range for this position:

$85,280.00 - $123,760.00 Annual

The actual salary will vary based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
