Physician Relation Specialist (Finance)

A Day in the Life

The Physician Relations Specialist will serve as a key liaison between the company and its physician partners, supporting the full lifecycle of physician engagement. This role is responsible for managing relationships with new and existing physician customers, overseeing consulting and royalty agreements, coordinating payment processes, and supporting strategic initiatives such as surgeon advisory boards. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication, and compliance-focused skills to ensure the execution of activities in alignment with legal, regulatory, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:
Customer Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for physician partners that would support work from R&D, Marketing, Clinical Research, Surgeon Education and Sales Education. This would include onboarding new surgeons and maintaining ongoing relationships with existing ones.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, Strategic Partnerships and Medical Education teams to enhance the physician experience and promote engagement.

Consulting Agreement Management:

  • Draft, review, and manage physician consulting agreements in coordination with Legal and Compliance teams.
  • Ensure proper documentation, approvals, and tracking of consulting activities and deliverables.
  • Maintain online system process of the consulting agreements through ONIT and other portals

Payment and Expense Management:

  • Track and process physician consulting payments and reimbursements in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure all payments are aligned with fair market value (FMV) and appropriately documented for audit and compliance purposes.

Royalty Agreement Oversight:

  • Administer royalty agreements, including tracking product development milestones and coordinating with internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain documentation to support royalty justification and value assessment, ensuring alignment with applicable regulations

Advisory Board and Surgeon Engagement Support:

  • Coordinate logistics and strategic planning for surgeon advisory boards, including agenda development, invitations, meeting coordination, and follow-up.
  • Gather feedback and insights to inform business strategies, clinical development, and product innovation using the Within3 platform.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure all physician interactions and agreements comply with company policies, Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), Sunshine Act, and other relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation in designated systems for audit readiness.

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Life Sciences, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in physician relations, medical affairs, compliance, or contract management in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of healthcare compliance regulations (e.g., AKS, Sunshine Act, FMV).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and contract/document management systems (e.g., iContracts, MedPro, Salesforce).
  • Experience working with HCP engagement platforms and/or CRM systems.
  • Familiarity with royalty agreements and intellectual property considerations in medical devices.
  • Prior involvement in strategic advisory board planning and execution

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$77,600.00 - $116,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
