Quality Engineer (Engineering)

Role/Purpose: 

To support the goals and objectives of Quality and Lean Manufacturing through continuous improvement of quality and manufacturing policies, procedures and systems. 


Responsibilities:

  • Deal with daily production quality issues using Lean problem solving tools.
  • Assists Lean Leader (Plant Manager) and local leadership team with implementing and maintaining the Woodbridge Production System (WPS) at the plant.  Ensures improvement efforts are driven throughout the plant through sharing of best practices.
  • Work with leadership team to improve customer satisfaction, eliminate waste and improve profitability using Lean tools and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates lean events and manages the administration and upkeep of implemented lean systems and tools (ie. Kamishibai system, Kaizen)
  • Continuous improvement of quality system and methods.
  • Plan and assist in the execution of various Lean transformation kaizen events targeted towards improving the operations, with special emphasis on cross-functional and computer value streams.
  • Partner with plant's Lean Leader as well as functional leaders and management staff to assess current processes and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports and presentations for management or publication.
  • Complete scheduled audits:  5S, TS, HS&E, Lean System Implementation audits.
  • Training of plant personnel in quality systems, Lean, WPS.
  • Promote consistency and standardization across the organization with emphasis on training and standardized follow-up.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Quality Engineering.
  • 1 to 2 years quality/manufacturing related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing in an industrial setting (preferably Toyota Production System) 
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Requires ability to define and prioritize problems and manage workload without direct supervision.
  • Strong, successful experience in leading process improvement projects.
