Job Title: Purchasing Specialist

Department: Purchasing

Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Position Summary/Objective

As a Purchasing Specialist, you will be an asset to the manufacturing team. You will work with the operations team to put projects into production, including material review, sourcing and supplier selection, and placing orders, etc. Candidate will personally perform all purchasing functions to include effective sourcing and procurement of all raw materials and products.

Essential Functions

  • Weekly replenishment of SKUs on minimum reorder points
  • Manage purchase requests, evaluate needs, seek approvals, place orders
  • Maintain internal and external communication
  • Implement various cost saving strategies
  • Improve vendor management such as following up on orders to ensure that materials are shipped and delivered on agreed dates
  • Resolve problems and issues arising from purchase of raw materials and supplies
  • Manage vendor credit application process
  • Request compliance documentation from vendors
  • Prepare and populate various spreadsheets
  • Perform sourcing, procuring, and RFQ for new items if needed
  • Researching and identifying prospective suppliers.
  • Liaising with internal project teams and maintaining strong supplier relations.
  • Evaluating products and suppliers according to key business criteria.
  • Inspecting and evaluating the quality of purchased items and resolving shortcomings.
  • Analyzing industry and demand trends and supporting senior management with the development and implementation of sourcing strategies.
  • Preparing reports and maintaining accurate inventory and procurement records.
  • Complying with company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or
  • A combination of commensurate experience and on the job training from food beverage or dietary additive industry
  • 3 - 4 years purchasing/sourcing experience required
  • Experience sourcing ingredients strongly preferred
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn new software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • QuickBooks experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
