MAJOR FUNCTIONS
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I is responsible for performing the assigned operational duties needed to keep the treatment plant functioning optimally and safely. The employee gathers and records information needed to make adjustments to the process, performs manual labor associated with plant operations and performs maintenance as needed. Duties are performed on an assigned shift which may include nights, weekends and holidays. Work is performed under the leadership of the Lead Wastewater Operator. This position requires a State of Florida Class "C" Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License.
"This is an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, ice storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or man made)."
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Collects samples, calibrates field meters and performs field testing.
Adjusts equipment and basins as directed.
Maintains treatment plant operational data.
Maintains chemical feeders, computers, digital sensors, equipment, machinery, ultraviolet disinfection system, gas chlorine and de-chlorination systems.
Reads and understands operations and control manuals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of and skill in operating Sequential Batch Reactor and/or Bardepho wastewater treatment processes.
General knowledge of FDEP Standard Operating Procedures for performing field testing and sample collection.
General knowledge of the function, controls and mechanics of the treatment plant's mechanical equipment.
Ability to maintain the plant operation log and sample collection records.
Ability to perform manual labor needed to maintain the treatment plant.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and to maintain plant operation records.
Skilled in making routine repairs on equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues and the public.
General knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the work assigned.
General knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in the work assigned.
General knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the work assigned.
Ability to understand and transmit verbal, written and digital instructions.
Must comply with all City safety policies and programs in the performance of their work to include, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required.
Possession of a current Florida Class "C" Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's license and a valid Florida Driver's License.
A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Work Environment:
Working in day to day operations of a Wastewater Plant, performing Emergency duties such as being called in during bad weather, being available to work overtime when needed, and being able to work holidays, nights and weekends.
