Postdoctoral Scholar (Finance)



Nature of Work:

The successful applicant will be expected to isolate, grow, enumerate, and purify phage that infect the marine bacterium Vibrio natriegens under trace metal clean conditions. Through close collaboration with Dr. Kristen Buck's laboratory at Oregon State University, this project will test the hypothesis that marine phage incorporate iron into their structures and represent a significant form of organic dissolved iron in the oceans.

This position is available immediately but there is flexibility in start date. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. An annual salary of $65,000 plus benefits is budgeted. Initial appointment will be for one year, with re-appointment anticipated for a total of three years.Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution and appropriate experience and training within a selected area of specialization. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow.

  • PhD in biology, microbiology, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, oceanography, marine sciences or related field at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated research skills in phage biology
  • Demonstrated ability to write and publish papers

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with marine bacteria and their phage
  • Experience with phage culturing
  • Experience working under trace metal clean conditions
  • Interest in chemistry (even though trace metal analyses will be conducted by collaborators)
