Engineering Technician (Finance)



Overview

We are seeking a full-time Engineering Technician in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modifying basic developmental and production equipment and systems.

Essential Functions

  • Able to operate basic lab test equipment to test and troubleshoot test failures
  • Set up and execute basic test plans and provide detailed test reports
  • Check and/or test functionality of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
  • Write technical reports, including documentation of the test setup and block diagrams to fully document test results and analysis
  • Work with various computer systems and programs to perform various clerical functions, including entering bills of materials, and completing purchase orders
  • Recommend design improvements and changes in assembly methods to improve reliability or simplify assembly and maintenance and learning hardware modifications
  • Track lab equipment and coordinate with the Calibration Lab to ensure equipment calibration compliance
  • Perform troubleshooting from system level to component level with engineering guidance
  • Thoroughly document work in an organized manner, work collaboratively/professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals including sharing ideas and information freely and positively, and identifies/resolves problems of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques
  • Understand Garmin's Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed
OTHER ATTRIBUTES PER AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:

Aircraft Certification:

  • Software loads to integration benches
  • Draft simple system/component/assembly wiring diagrams, with mentoring from engineering
  • Create mechanical and electrical assemblies from scratch
  • Author bench and ground configuration and/or test procedures
  • Troubleshoot aviation bench testing
Electrical Engineering Technician
  • Layout electronic circuits
  • Assist Design Engineers through reading schematics, understanding and debugging basic circuits to the component level
  • Understand system interconnects and wiring practices and is able to diagnose and correct connection and wiring problems and/or create system wiring diagrams with assistance
  • Perform electrical circuit prototyping, breadboard construction and troubleshooting including reading/following schematics and layout drawings to identify solder and assembly problems and correcting problems with assistance
  • Able to operate basic lab test equipment such as PCB milling machines, multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, and logic analyzers
  • Perform basic PCB and unit modifications including adjusting, calibrating, aligning, and/or modifying circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance and learn skills for handling more difficult hardware modifications
  • Prepare/execute electrical rework and software updates on lab prototypes
  • Document schematics and enter them into computer systems
  • Recommend design improvements and changes in basic circuitry
  • Serve as a mentor to Engineering Lab Assistants
Mechanical Engineering Technician
  • Prepare units and conduct environmental and performance tests such as vibration, shock, temperature, and waterproofness
  • Build basic prototypes and test fixtures for mechanical assemblies
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical systems
  • Maintain, stock, and clean equipment and tools for the department and lab as assigned, and perform or coordinate basic troubleshooting and repair activities as needed
  • Able to perform basic CAD support tasks
Component Engineering Technician
  • Determine parametric attributes for assigned components
  • Track components and monitor PCN (Product Change Notifications)
  • Assist engineers
  • Contribute to meetings
  • Review documentation for accuracy
  • Apply Component Data
Aviation Flight Simulator Technician
  • Maintain system benches and flight simulator labs including updating, configuring, testing and error reporting
  • Conduct functionality tests
  • Recommend design improvements
  • Author technical documents
  • Apply, understand and interpret aircraft wiring and designs
Audio Technician
  • Understand system interconnects and wiring practice to diagnose and correct connection and wiring problems
  • Operate lab test equipment to test and troubleshoot failures
  • Write technical reports
  • Document setup, test, block diagrams and schematics
  • Set and execute test plans
  • Provide detailed reports and offer suggestions for improvement
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or another substantially similar field OR electronics related Military training OR completion of a minimum of 80 hours towards a BS degree in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or substantially related field OR current ISCET certification or related certification OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academic qualifications (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with ability to effectively apply learned knowledge
  • Demonstrates ability to apply test processes and methods to verify design and products performance
  • Understands basic test plans and procedures including FCC, CE, and live GPS testing
  • Proficiency working with MS Office Suite, specifically Word & Excel
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must exhibit professionalism, be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems and excellent time management/follow-up skills
  • Must possess the ability to: bend, twist and lift up to 50 lbs. and team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; push/pull test equipment on wheeled, moveable racks of up to 400 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, climb and utilize ladders to connect cables; and walk long distances throughout the facility
Electrical Role:
  • Demonstrated ability to read schematics, understand and debug basic circuits from system level to component level with engineering guidance
  • Must demonstrate the ability to operate basic and advanced lab equipment including PCB milling machines, oscilloscopes, EMC analyzers, etc.
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
  • Mechanical prototyping skills
  • Test software development experience (Electrical role only)
  • Experience with mechanical measurements and inspection tools (Mechanical role only)
