Controller (Transportation)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Controller reports to the Vice President of Finance & Operations
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
The controller supervises the Accounting Unit Manager and the Student Financial Services Specialist
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
Works from an office at Crown College. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer and required programs, printer, fax machine, calculator, copy machines, and other equipment as the position requires.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Accounting (30%)
Prepare and process journal entries
Reconcile general ledger accounts
Run month and year end closing procedures
Manage year-end audit in cooperation with auditors
Maintain chart of accounts
Reporting (20%)
Prepare monthly reports for cabinet, department heads
Prepare year-end reports and audited financial statements
Prepare annual reports for government and accrediting agencies
Prepare annual tax information/reports (990, 1098T, Unitrust)
Budgeting (20%)
Develop annual budget in cooperation with Cabinet
Prepare enrollment and income projections
Consolidate department expense budgets
Develop plant fund budget
Maintain board-approved budget
Maintain budget on Jenzabar EX
Process approved revisions
Forecasting/Variance Analysis (10%)
Analyze monthly activity and budget variances
Develop income and expense projections
Develop and report projections
Highlight significant variances for Cabinet
Supervise Accounting Functions (10%)
Supervise account payable and student billing functions
Develop, implement, and evaluate accounting functions
Insure proper internal controls are in place
Maintain fiscal policies and procedures
Other (10%)
Assist with student billing functions
Special projects
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
Knowledge of Jenzabar EX or similar product
Collaborative work spirit and ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization
Effective time and project management skills
Ability to supervise the work of others

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors in Accounting or Financial Management or related field
5 years accounting experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):
MBA or equivalent or 4 to 10 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in not for profit accounting
Work experience in Christian higher education
