Development Coordinator (Finance)



Birch Family Services is a leading provider of education, employment, and community support services for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities and their families in New York City. The Development Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Birch Family Services Development team. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position focuses on the effective management of our donor database (Salesforce), accurate gift processing and acknowledgment, and insightful reporting to guide fundraising strategy.

The Development Coordinator supports donor stewardship and engagement efforts through personalized communications, campaign implementation, and the execution of key fundraising events, including Birch's annual gala, golf outing, and 5K. The role also contributes to basic marketing and digital communications, working closely with the Senior Communications Manager to amplify Birch's message and fundraising efforts across channels.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy professional with strong organizational skills and a desire to make a meaningful impact in a mission-driven nonprofit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Data & Donor Systems Management

  • Maintain the donor database (Salesforce), ensuring accuracy and consistency of records, entries, and reports.
  • Support the Senior Development Manager in preparing donor and fundraising reports to inform strategy, track progress, and guide decision-making.
  • Support the setup, tracking, and maintenance of online fundraising platform campaigns (e.g., peer-to-peer giving, event registration, etc.).
  • Manage the gift acknowledgment process to ensure timely, personalized, and accurate donor recognition.
  • Process matching gift requests and coordinate with appropriate vendors or platforms.

Donor Stewardship & Engagement
  • Support the cultivation and stewardship of donors through outreach, acknowledgments, mailings, and small engagement touches.
  • Collaborate with the development team to implement annual fundraising campaigns and appeals.
  • Assist in building donor segments and mailing/email lists for outreach.
  • Help maintain donor communication calendars and materials.

Event & Campaign Support
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for fundraising, including the annual gala, golf outing and 5K.
  • Help manage event timelines, vendor coordination, and basic event logistics.
  • Maintain event websites and track registrations.

Marketing & Communications Support
  • Coordinate with the Senior Communications Manager to help execute email campaigns, digital fundraising outreach, and basic marketing tasks.
  • Assist in creating or proofreading fundraising materials, donor spotlights, and event collateral.
  • Provide administrative support for social media and storytelling initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned to support the overall mission and development goals of the organization.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fundraising, development operations, events, or nonprofit administration required.
  • Experience successfully interacting with donors, volunteers, and colleagues in a development or related capacity required.
  • Experience with donor databases (preferably Salesforce) and basic knowledge of digital tools (e.g., email marketing platforms, event platforms, Canva, etc.) highly preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
